5 Simple Ways to Improve Your Home WiFi
Poor WiFi can be incredibly frustrating. Slow streaming, dropped video calls and dead spots around the house can make even the best internet connection feel unreliable.
The good news is that the problem isn’t always your internet provider. In many homes, the real issue is the way WiFi is distributed around the property.
Here are five things you can do to improve your WiFi.
1. Move your router to a better location
Your router should ideally be positioned somewhere central and elevated, rather than hidden inside a cupboard or tucked away behind the TV.
Walls, concrete, metal and even large appliances can interfere with WiFi signals.
2. Consider a mesh WiFi system
If your home is larger or has areas where the WiFi signal is weak, a mesh WiFi system can provide much better coverage.
Instead of relying on one router to reach the entire house, multiple access points work together to provide coverage throughout the property.
3. Don’t ignore outdoor areas
Modern homes often need WiFi beyond the walls of the house — garages, sheds, workshops, sleepouts and outdoor entertainment areas may all need reliable connectivity.
A properly designed WiFi system can extend your network into these areas.
4. Check your devices
Older devices may not support the latest WiFi standards and can sometimes contribute to a poor experience.
It is worth checking whether the problem affects every device or just one particular phone, TV or computer.
5. Get your WiFi professionally assessed
If you’ve tried everything and still have dead spots, the problem may require a more tailored solution.
